Member of Parliament from Vatakara Lok Sabha constituency, the strongest CPI (M) bastion in Kerala, Mullappally Ramachandran of Indian National Congress, son of veteran freedom fighter Sri Mullappally Gopalan, has come a long way from a boy in a backward village Chombala, Vatakara, Kerala, to a person chosen for the SEVENTH time to represent the masses in an August House-the Lok Sabha.

Currently Member of Parliament (16th Lok Sabha), Mullappally Ramachandran was earlier returned five times consecutively to the 8th, 9th,10th,11th and 12th Lok Sabha from Cannanore, another strong fortress of CPI(M) and once earlier, in 2009, from Vatakara to the 15TH Lok Sabha . During the last 5 years He was Minister of State for Home Affairs, Govt. Of India.

When the election was fought and won to the 8th Lok Sabaha in 1984 Cannanore was an extremely backward constituency with no signs of development in any sphere. Mr Mullappally Ramachandran was able to bring about several developments in that constituency during his 5 terms from Kannur.

Vatakara was equally backward when Mr Mullappally was elected in 2009. To his credit Mr Mullappally has several developmental activities in Vatakara. For details please see "Accomplishments".
